Miscellaneous Policies

MISCELLANEOUS POLICIES / DRESS

Children are encouraged to wear play clothes and tennis shoes. Daily activities include active and messy play, and the children should feel comfortable enough to enjoy themselves without worrying about their clothes. The child’s name should be placed on all outdoor clothing and other belongings to help ensure the return of all the proper possessions and clothes. Please do not allow the children to wear cowboy boots or shoes that are hard to keep on as it hinders their movement and mobility on the playground, and also hinders participation in music activities.

FIELD TRIPS

An important part of our preschool curriculum (four years and older) is exposing the children to many and varied experiences within the community; therefore, according to the age of the child, a number of field trips are planned during the year. A signed permission slip from parents is required for field trips. Field trips will either be listed on the monthly calendar or notice will be sent by the teachers.

Because we do not have extra staff members who can supervise students when the classes are off the school grounds, we need parents to make arrangements if a parent decides that a child cannot go on a trip. This may require either picking up early if the trip is in the afternoon or coming in late if it is a morning trip. The only exception to this policy is when the school has decided that a child cannot attend a field trip as a disciplinary measure. In that case, it is the Director’s responsibility to provide supervision for the child during the field trip.

OUTSIDE PLAY

This is a regular part of the daily schedule. Everyone plays outside unless the weather is rainy, extremely cold, or otherwise disagreeable. If illness prevents a child from participating in outside play, a doctor’s request for the exemption is required.

MESSAGES

Verbal messages from the children cannot be accepted by teachers. Please write a note or telephone the office (404-296-1783). If your child is to be picked up by anyone other than yourself or your regular carpool driver, we must have written authority from you or a call to the office prior to pickup time.

MEAL POLICIES

Preschool parents contribute morning snacks for the class on a scheduled basis. The teachers will give out a copy of this schedule at Orientation. A hot lunch and afternoon snack will be provided for the All Day Program. Children who arrive between 7:00 – 8:00 for the All Day Program may bring a simple breakfast. Parents are asked to see that the children do not bring other food, gum, or candy to school. Lunch can be purchased by children enrolled in the GA. Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st Grade and Lunch Bunch classes.

BIRTHDAYS

We encourage you to celebrate your child’s birthday at school. You may bring a special treat to eat and birthday napkins and cups. No party favors please. Birthday parties may not be held during school and invitations to parties cannot be sent home on the children’s bag.

MANDATORY CONFERENCES

An individual parent-teacher conference will be held after the first six weeks of school. This conference is a time to share information about your family, languages spoken, and other information that will help the child be successful in school. Your child’s teacher will notify you of the time. Conferences may be held at any other time the teacher or parent feels that one is needed. Please feel free to call your child’s teacher or the Director if you would like to schedule a conference. A final conference is held at the end of the year to review progress. Parents are welcome visitors, and we encourage you to fill out the Parent Volunteer Form. Parents are asked to evaluate the program each year.

MISCELLANEOUS

Each child who is in the program over four hours will have the advantage of an afternoon rest time each day. A cot or mat will be provided. Rest time is a state requirement for any child who stays longer than four hours. Parents are asked to provide a blanket or towel for cover during rest time. This is a rest time. No child is required to sleep.

Children are provided with toys at school, so toys should not be brought from home.

Notify the Director at once when there is a change of address or a change of telephone number (work, home, or emergency).
